In this print “Pow(er)”, a hand-held grenade also looks like a spray can. What comes out of the spray can/grenade is the word “Pow(er)”. “Pow” and “Power” has two completely different meanings: “pow” means a sound of a blow or explosion while “power” means “the ability to influence”. As an ignited granite stands for war while spray can stands for street art. With double meanings, the print criticizes the existence of war at the same time emphasizes the power of art. This anti-war artist, Shepard Fairey once said “For me, street art has always been about populism and emPOWERment.” To him, through pop art he denounces the enormous disastrous impact of war. #shepardfairey #obey #streetart #popart #politicalart
