Satellites: Objects Orbiting Around Us

Duration : 2023. 01. 25 (WED) - 2023. 03.19 (SUN)

Contemporary by U invited Spanish artist Taher Jaoui to hold his first solo exhibition in Taiwan.
In this exhibition, the artist Jaoui has a background in mathematics and science, and mathematical symbols are a natural language for him.
The artist unveils the composition of mathematical symbols and engineering formulas on the canvas, figurative and abstract compositions to connect elements and forms. In the process of creation, he sees the forms and elements of his works as a satellite orbiting between them and around space, and these celestial bodies are not scattered haphazardly throughout the universe; they form an orderly system, large or small.
Thus, through many of TAHER JAOUI's works in this exhibition, one can observe images of mathematical calculations and formulas, and the rest of the vibrant abstract color strokes.
Jaoui is also inspired by African masks and African cultural traditions that influence his work. The sheer size of the African region has given rise to a multitude of tribes; the masks are a kind of abstract carriers of different sacred and ancient spirits. The aesthetics and mysticism behind them bring him a lot of inspiration for his work.

The artist's unique style comes from the mastery of the familiarity of the materials used (oil, acrylic, charcoal ......) and the repetition of these processes. He layers pastels, oils and acrylics in a way that has more to do with emotion than physics. A mysterious concept of distance, he uses his brushwork in a unique way. The canvas serves as a conduit for understanding his thoughts, emotions and visions; and documents Taher's thought and emotional process.

Jaoui balances his own thoughts and feelings and energy in his creations, emphasizing the richness of his works by constructing raw textures that directly capture the energy of each piece, serving as a channel to convey his vision, a source of confidence and calmness for the artist.
