About the Artist
Oamul , born in 1988 in Fujian, China, currently resides in Shanghai.
Oamul's oeuvre is distinguished by its rich emotionality, vibrant color palette, and fluid brushwork. His compositions, while minimalist, are deeply expressive, integrating elements of nature and humanity to create vivid portrayals of life. Through his unique artistic language, Oamul conveys a profound range of emotions and sensations, engaging with nature and daily life in a sincere and unpretentious manner.
About the Artwork
In the painting, a naked figure stands amidst a vast landscape, with a gentle breeze caressing the body and a sea of flowers in full bloom. The figure seems to merge seamlessly with nature, free from distractions and constraints. In creating this piece, Oamul did not assign any gender to the figure, aiming purely to express his profound reverence and admiration for nature.
Oamul once said: "The sky turns purple at dusk—it is the most ambiguous moment." He transforms this fleeting time into a visual atmosphere on the canvas, using delicate brushstrokes to depict ethereal clouds and winding mountain walls, presenting the grace and grandeur of nature in a poetic manner. At the same time, Oamul skillfully applies varying shades of color, adding depth to the painting and immersing the viewer in the scene, allowing them to feel the serenity and freedom that resonate with the earth and sky.
After the painting was completed, a publisher noted that its mood resonated deeply with Han Kang's novel The Vegetarianand selected it as the cover image. The artist then adopted the name for this work as well.
