Artist Introduction:

Koichiro Takagi is a Japanese artist born in Tokyo in 1974. After graduating from Nihon University, he moved to the United States and studied screen printing at the San Francisco Art Institute (now known as the San Francisco Art University). He then moved to New York to start his career as an artist and returned to Tokyo in 2005.

Takagi incorporates American subcultures, such as underground comics, punk rock, hot rods, street culture, and tattoos, into his art. He infuses humor and sunshine into his work, mixing satire and playfulness. This rough and edgy style deeply attracted Takagi's soul, and he discovered the roots of "this can also be art." His works often feature animals and anthropomorphized creatures as subjects, displaying strong emotions and poetic themes. He breaks the constraints of traditional embroidery by selecting materials and applying creative techniques. Influenced by punk music and street art, he creates a utopian world in his works, inserting conflicting elements into familiar things, allowing opposing elements to coexist. He often uses various techniques and materials such as painting, embroidery, and collage to present his creations.

Recently, Takagi's works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions and collaborated with major brands such as BEAMS, PORTER, UNIQLO, and Paul Smith.

For Blurring the Realms, Takagi created cute anthropomorphized animals with an evil twist. The fusion of cute and eerie, sunshine and darkness, sacred and secular elements is a hallmark of Takagi's work, which serve as the foundation for his creations. He later added a template technique and simplified his style to enhance his expressive power and create a sense of conflicting conflicts. Takagi's works have received widespread attention and acclaim in Japan and internationally, exhibiting in numerous exhibitions and events. His works are not only exquisite pieces of art but also express and perpetuate culture.
